In 2022, 36.4% of South America’s population suffered moderate or severe food insecurity.1
Children’s Care Centers can be found in desert shanty towns surrounding Lima, where they serve as a light for Christ in the midst of darkness and hopelessness. Operated by local believers, a CCC is a place where an impoverished child can eat a nutritious meal, learn from God’s Word, receive academic support, and play in a safe and loving environment.
In addition to providing food and academic reinforcement, the CCCs serve as an outlet for Su Refugio’s Happy Steps program. Many children in Peru lack adequate footwear and sustain significant damage to their feet, especially in harsh mountain climates. By partnering with a local shoemaker, Happy Steps provides sturdy shoes and podiatric care to children in need.
