Our Work in Paraguay

Located in the heart of South America, Paraguay is home to thousands of children and orphans who have experienced abuse, abandonment, and unstable living conditions. On a mission trip to the rural Paraguayan town of Tobatí, Su Refugio founders Scott and Michelle Kvandal saw the devastating effects of generational abuse and poverty. In 2010, our 11-acre campus in Tobatí opened its doors to care for these children, orphans, widows, and single mothers. Su Refugio has become a place of “His Refuge” and a beacon of hope in the larger Tobatí community.

Children’s Home

115+ orphans rescued since 2010

Su Refugio is recognized by the Paraguayan government as the model institution for residential children’s care in Paraguay. Three Christian family units currently provide comprehensive care for over 20 children and teenagers who have been removed from their homes by the courts due to abuse. These children not only have their physical needs provided for, but they also experience the love of Christ and are taught the good news of salvation.

Entrepeneurship

Equipping women & teens with vocational skills

In the communities where Su Refugio serves, many mothers are forced to choose between caring for their children at home or working to put food on the table. The EQUIP program is designed to empower women and teenagers with skills and business knowledge that allow them to earn income from within their own homes and communities. These students also receive teaching from God’s Word and encouragement to lead their children in the truth.
